Yesterday was the day. The BIG first soccer game. Lauryl looked adorable and was ready to meet her challengers. First up was Team Shrek, aka the team that Kylie Lewis plays on. Team Shrek absolutely dominated poor Blue's Clues. Miss Kylie was a fierce competitor and had a fabulous game face. I know her special juice (Mountain Dew) probably didn't hinder her performance and we definitely plan to offer performance enhancing beverages at our next game as well;-)
Let me start with Lauryl's game stance. Hands on hips like a pep squad leader. We saw this pose LOTS. It was quite funny, really. Well, if your name isn't Robbie and you aren't hard-wired to compete!
This shot shows that Lauryl can definitely run, and she used the skill well to follow the pack and kick the ball (or um, let it bounce off her leg if it accidentally bumped into her)!

The Lewis' told us that Kylie used to fly around the field playing airplane last year, so we're hanging onto the fact that Lauryl is the youngest on these teams by far and that she does seem to enjoy it. This will be a good first season to get her feet wet and start to understand the game. We'll start using Daddy's favorite phrase of "if your not first your last" next year. This year we'll just cheer alot and encourage her to try to kick the ball. I love watching our kiddos play this sport. I'm still very hopeful that Lauryl will continue playing for many years.
Afterall, she's so darn cute in the uniform.
She was so proud of how she did and happy to be playing and we were super proud of her too, even though we did find some humor in the day too.
Most of all though, I love soccer because it's amazing exercise and often results in little soccer stars passing out on the couch well before bedtime on game day!
