Today was the BIG day! The day our little girl started elementary school. It seems like just yesterday that she was a tiny little girl learning to sit, walk, talk, and explore the world. Now she is this amazing, self sufficient, bright, kind, and caring child. No longer can I pretend she's a toddler or still my baby, it's time to admit that she's growing up.
I was a little worried about how today would go. The vision of safety town still in my head kept me grounded for what could happen, but all indications were that today would go well. We had a long talk last night when tucking her in and discussed her fears (I won't know anyone) and what she was most looking forward to (crafts). I reassured her that she was starting a huge adventure and assured her that she was going to have an absolute blast.
Kendyl appeared in our room at 6:57 this morning, three minutes before I was planning to wake her. She laid in our bed and watched Arthur while I showered, and then we got her dressed in her uniform and headed downstairs for breakfast. Sitting on the table were cards from both Robbie and I telling her how proud of her we are, how much we love her, and what a big deal it is that she's heading off to kindergarten. In the center of the table was a good luck bouquet of flowers from Mindi.
After a great breakfast and brushing teeth we started snapping the required 1st Day of school photos:

Drop off went GREAT. She walked in, said hello to her teacher, fond her spot on the coat rack, and then gave mommy a big hug goodbye and out the door I went. She had a look of nervousness on her face, but never got the one where I thought a breakdown was on the way. I was soooo proud of her!

When asked about her day, she said it was "the best one ever!" I was informed that they did TONS of crafts and that she learned two songs. Her only concern for the day was why it had to be so short! She is eagerly anticipating full days of fun starting next week, but is also looking forward to Friday since it will be her first day to have recess and eat lunch at school. We couldn't have asked for a better first day!
